, Are You Ready To Have Fun in 2015?!
I know I am! I have to admit the year has gotten off to a stellar start with Winter Interrupted: An Artist's Beach Holiday! Gorgeous weather, lots of cool things and places to sketch and many new friendships made with long talks into the evenings! Wow, it was a blast! (More at the bottom of the email!)

One of the things that came out of the beach class was a reminder of how much I miss the one-on-one connections that can only be made in person and I came away wondering how I could capture more of that feeling in the classes online.
A New Type of Class
My answer is to focus a class on the individuals and their work so that we can spend more time on each artist's challenges and growth. I've wanted to do a more focused class for the last few years, but have struggled with how to do it. After much ruminating and trying out different class forms, I think I've hit upon a good combination:

This class will be focused on YOU and YOUR ARTWORK!

How?

Well, let me explain:

The class will be limited to 12 participants. Each person will [electronically] submit up to 3 pieces of work they are struggling with, stuck on, or otherwise cannot make work.

I will then create an assignment and video for each week addressing common issues and giving specific and in-depth suggestions to the individuals on how to bring the artwork around to where they want it to be. The assignment will be created so that everyone can create new works based on the focus of that week.

Critiques will be specific, in-depth and direct. You'll be given the opportunity to create a new work or update the old one. Please note: this class is directed towards art journaling and sketching. Paintings will not be accepted.

The ideal candidate for this class will be someone who is ready to take their skills to the next level, has a solid catalog of work and is able to easily identify areas they struggle with or wish to improve.

This class is not for someone wanting to lurk but not post, a beginner who does not have a lot of work or someone who is limited in time as this class will be work intensive.

A Great Way To Interrupted Winter!
There is nothing quite like a weeklong workshop to immerse yourself into the world of art, not to mention an escape from the brutal cold that has plagued much of the US this winter! Between the gorgeous weather, phenomenal sunsets and camaraderie with like-minded artists, a magic slowly begins to weave itself among the moments of the day. Food tastes better, the wine seems a little sweeter and the sun's glow a little warmer.

In the mornings, we went to predetermined sketching locations to sketch and explore. We then gathered for lunch before deciding what new areas we wanted to visit along the beach in the afternoons—with more sketching, of course!

Evenings were spent talking long into the evening as we tried out the local restaurants. The laughter, the memories, the friendships renewed or new ones made, are just some of the gifts we all came away with from this trip. Sea shells and sand dollars were added bonuses!

You can read a little more about the trip on Painted Thoughts Blog.

I do hope you'll be able to join us on our next Imaginary Trips Made Real adventure!
I look forward to seeing you in the Imaginary Realm and soon!
