New Year, New Opportunities
Happy New Year,!
Are you looking forward to making creative strides with your art this year? Perhaps there is another part of your life you're looking to make changes in. (Me too!) If this is the case, I can highly recommend keeping a journal

In my case, it's a visual journal with quite a few written-word pages sprinkled in. There is something clarifying for me when I get the words out of my head where they circle themselves until I'm dizzy and down onto the page. Usually, once they're on the page and I can read through, I begin to get a better sense of what's been worrying or challenging me.

Kinda like putting a jigsaw puzzle together—it's not until many of the separate pieces are put together that it's possible to tell where a section goes. It seems adding in a small sketch here in there is much like finding that one missing piece that has been eluding me.

Keeping a journal of sketches and words is a bit different for me as well. In the past, I've always had a written-word journal and a sketchbook. In the last few months, I've found that I've been sketching in my written journal more. I still have a sketchbook that travels around with me when I'm on the go, but it seems that words mixed with sketches has a lot more value to me than it used to.

It is also fascinating to me to look back and see how my concerns or triumphs manifested into art. I can usually point to a sketch (without reading any of the surrounding text) and know exactly where I was and what was going on at the time! Those sketches also make for a handy index too. By looking at the sketches, I can get to a certain period of time in my life much faster than if I read the text.

As we move into 2017, I wanted to share several workshop opportunities that are coming up this year in the hopes that we'll meet up somewhere along the way and share our journals with one another! There are also some new classes over at The Imaginary Realm!

An Imaginary Trip Made Real To England!
Be still, my heart! I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for this trip! This week-long workshop will be taking place in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace.

English gardens, cottages with thatched roofs, rolling meadows, cobblestone streets and small shops to wander around...doesn't that sound like fun?

We'll be there August 14th through the 20th and the days will be chocked full of small demos and discussions as we go through our day's activities. In addition to just being there, we'll be taking in a high tea as well as a boat ride on one of the many canals. We'll have an opportunity to visit Blenheim Palace, the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill. Just looking at some of the imagery from the area, I can tell you there's more than enough to fill a sketchbook or three.

I have partnered with The Blue Walk tour company for this adventure, and I believe we will be in the best of hands for our visit. The Blue Walk understands the value of walking around an area and pausing to sink into the ambiance of an area rather than rushing through and snapping a few pictures for later.

If you've gone on a tour with Jane LeFazio or Leslie Fehling, then you're familiar with the tour company. If you'd like to join in this fabulous adventure, please click here for more information!
Postcards In The Gardens!
This March, I will have the opportunity to teach a 2-day workshop at Selby Gardens! This place is beyond fabulous and the weather in March should be wonderful! The class will be a mixture of classroom time as well as garden time—we'll be taking our sketchbooks out into the garden and filling our pages! This class will take place March 9th and 10th. To learn more about the gardens and this workshop, please click here.

I will be back for another workshop on April 21st. This class will be less in the classroom and more out in the gardens. For more information on the April class, please click here
Keeton's Office & Art Supply, Bradenton, FL
Coming up in February, I'll be teaching a workshop on painting fiery Sunsets! We'll be working with a limited palette to create the phenomenal glow of a Florida sunset in the winter. This class will take place on February 11th. Keeton's also has a wonderful selection of art supplies and other temptations!

If you would like more information on this class, click here. (This is a link to The Artist's Corner as the actual class info was not posted at the time I sent the newsletter out.) The classes are listed by date, so please scroll down to Feb. 11th.

I will also be teaching there on March 11th, April 8th, and May 13th—I hope you can come and join in the fun!

Independent Learning Classes
If time constraints will not to allow you to join in an interactive class or a workshop, take a look at the Independent Learning Classes over at The Imaginary Realm! You can start any time and work whenever it's convenient for you.

An Imaginary Visit Through Autumn, Part 1 and Part 2 are now available! This is the same class I did back in the fall of 2016. We had so much fun with Part 1, I went forward with Part 2! You'll have the materials for 365 days for the day you enroll and you can watch the videos as many times as you'd like. Click the class names to find out more information!

Are you confused by watercolor pigments, papers and the wild assortment of brushes that are available on the market? I know when I first started painting, I took a few classes, read a few books and experimented on my own, but there were still gaps in my knowledge. I created Watercolor Beginnings to address those gaps many artists seem to have.

The class starts out with the very basics and works through paper, pigments, palettes, applying paint along with an assortment of exercises. Rather than focusing on painting skills, this class focuses on the whys and hows of watercolor painting before you start dipping your brush and splashing in the paint. Sound interesting? Interactive Classes at ImaginaryTrips.com
My grand plan of having a full schedule of classes laid out for 2017 died a quiet death when I found myself suffering from the crud (flu) that seems to be going around. Instead, I climbed up on the couch and concentrated on surviving the holidays without infecting anyone else!

I am in the process of putting together the schedule now and hope to have something put together by the end of January. If there's somewhere in particular you'd like to go, let me know! I look forward to hearing from you.

As always, keep filling the page!
