Spring Is Finally Here and So Are The Classes!

Enjoying The Last Lovely Breezes of Spring!
Hi ! I'm sure many of you are still waiting for Spring or for the season to come and stay. Spring is here in Florida and nearly gone already! I've been sketching as much of the season as I can, but it goes fast.

There are many things that are worth capturing on the page that only come around in Spring—the season's first flowers and new tree growth, the unfurling of the ferns by the creek and emergence of all kinds of bugs as well as the return of the birds from their migrations. Snow shovels (hopefully) sit in the corner unused and the warm woolies are left hanging in the closet as we go about our days in shirt sleeves!

I encourage you to take a walk outside with your sketchbook and a pen, even if Spring is being a bit uncooperative! Look around you for signs of the new season. Take note of the changes that have occurred in the last month alone. In our hurry, we often miss these small, soft glimpses Mother Nature shares with us.

Something else to remember is taking the ordinary, like a pair of galoshes or garden gloves and slipping a bouquet of spring flowers in them, can make them into something extraordinary! I did sketch a few years ago and I still remember I had the best fun with taking the reds and yellows of the boot and making my flowers the same colors (if I remember correctly, they were actually a variety of pinks!).

Don't have red and yellow boots? That's okay because you have a paintbox full of colors and you can make your boots any color you want! To finish, consider using  a rubber stamp to create a fun background of polka dots or another pattern as I did here.

Something simple and yet so much fun! I hope you find plenty of inspiration in the season! Read on for more inspiration for the season and beyond.

All the best,
Laure

New Classes at ImaginaryTrips.com!
I've been spending a lot of time in gardens lately. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is located in Sarasota, Florida, right next to Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. I've been taking oodles and oodles of photos that show the gardens blooming in wild abandon I figured you might like to come An Imaginary Trip To Selby Gardens with me. We've had a nearly non-existent winter this year and everything has been growing like crazy.

There are also three new class formats over at ImaginaryTrips.com—you can take the Interactive Class with a private class blog to share your work with me and others; an Independent Learning Class where you keep the materials for a year but without the class blog; the Combination Class of both the Interactive and the Independent Learning Class allows you to have both options for a reduced price.

England, Here We Come!!
An Imaginary Trip Made Real
To England!
There are still a few places left!!
English gardens, cottages with thatched roofs, rolling meadows, cobblestone streets and small shops to wander around...doesn't that sound like fun?

This week-long workshop will be taking place in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace.

We'll be there August 14th through the 20th and the days will be chocked full of small demos and discussions as we go through our day's activities. We'll have plenty of time to work in our sketchbooks, both in the mornings and afternoons, to finish pages, ask questions and share our kits and such!

In addition to just being there, we'll be taking in a high tea as well as a boat ride on one of the many canals. We'll have an opportunity to visit Blenheim Palace, the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill. Just looking at some of the imagery from the area, I can tell you there's more than enough to fill a sketchbook or three.

By The Way...I would LOVE to come to your city to teach! If you belong to an art group or league, please pass my name and email address on to your Workshop Coordinator and let's get together!! I love to travel, but what I really love is to connect with the folks who love to sketch and splash around in the paint!
